If you, or someone you know, is a Sheridan history buff, the Sheridan Historical Society would like to recommend a new book now available in limited edition at the Sheridan Historical Society museum. The book is authored by Sheridan’s own Jim Godby, the founder of Godby Home Furnishings, and titled “Living the American Dream”. Over the years, people who did not know his story have asked Godby how he got into the furniture business in the first place and how he managed to grow from a single store in uptown Sheridan to what is now a multi-outlet corporation across central Indiana.
Mr. Godby grew his furniture business from scratch and decided a few months ago to sit down at his computer and tell his story from the beginning to present day. There are no ghost writers, no big-name publishing houses and no endorsements from mega-authors or other famous individuals. This book is just pure Jim Godby and written from the heart as a memoir/autobiography. The book is 100 pages of pure, enjoyable, informative, and beautifully written local history that will entertain you via the written word and the included pictures.
Priced at $20 per copy, the book is worth every penny to local history enthusiasts and new and old community members alike. It will make an excellent and affordable present for yourself or someone you love. All proceeds for the book are being donated to the Sheridan Historical Society, reflecting on the fact that that the Sheridan community has been a favorite charity of Jim Godby and his family for years. The Godby family, of which there are multiple branches associated with Sheridan, have earned the trust and respect of the Sheridan community with their generosity and hard work.
If you would like to purchase a copy, please visit the new Sheridan Historical Society at 315 South Main Street in beautiful uptown Sheridan on any Tuesday or Friday afternoon from 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm. And while you are there, Society members would love to give you a tour of the new museum and all our interesting exhibits.
