Charles Samuel “Sam” Bailey, 84, Lebanon, passed away March 28, 2019, at Homewood Health Campus in Lebanon, Ind.

He was born in Boone County on May 31, 1934; a son of the late Samuel Raymond and Frances (Marlow) Bailey.

He graduated from Sheridan High School in May, 1952. On May 31, 1953, he married Jacqueline “Kay” (Barnes) Bailey. After more than 65 years of marriage she preceded him in death on Nov. 17, 2018.

Mr. Bailey was a lifelong resident and farmer in Boone and Hamilton counties. He also worked and managed the Indian Trails Branch of the former Boone County Co-Op for more than 20 years, retiring in 1999 but continuing to farm, raise cattle and horses for several years.

Spending time with family and friends was an enjoyment. He especially loved being able to show his grandkids and great-grandkids around the farm either on a John Deere tractor or his Gator. The rides would almost always entail going to the creek to throw rocks and end up in the garden to pick produce and bring into the house for Granny.

Mr. Bailey’s welcoming (and sometimes mischievous) smile will be greatly missed. Family members would like to gratefully recognize and thank the wonderful staff at Homewood and Brookdale Hospice for their kind care and attention.

Survivors include three children, Victor Bailey of Lebanon, Verona (Brian) Shipley of Silver Springs, Fla. And Vince (Lisa) Bailey of Louisville; seven grandchildren: Eric (Melissa) Bailey, Jessica (Don) Craig, Renee (Jordan) Small, Jennifer (Byron) Hutto, Breck Shipley, Nicholas Bailey and fiancée Laura Goggin and Austin Bailey; 10 great-grandchildren, Sam Bailey, Emmett Bailey, Aleia Couchman, Paige Couchman, Ethan Hibbs, Hannah Small, Oliver Small, Evelyn Hutto, Isaac Hutto and Greta Hutto; one great-great-grandchild due in October 2019; three brothers, Robert Bailey of Zionsville, Richard (Jacque) Bailey of Tennessee and Kenneth (Sue) Bailey of Dover; and one sister, Luetta Howe of Mechanicsburg.

In addition to his parents and wife, Mr. Bailey was preceded in death by one daughter, Vanesa Bailey; a brother, Thomas L. Bailey; brother-in-law, Robert Howe; and two sisters-in-law, Frances Bailey and June Bailey.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 1, 2019 at Myers Mortuary, 1502 N. Lebanon St. in Lebanon. Family and friends may pay their respects Sunday, March 31 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., at the funeral home. Interment will follow services at Oak Hill Cemetery in Lebanon.
