Daniel Johnson, 68, passed away at his home in Lebanon, Ind., surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020.
Born July 29, 1952 in Butler County, Ky., he was the son of the late Walker Alan and Irene (Seabolt) Johnson.
He attended Howe High School in Indianapolis and was a member of the Mechanicsburg Christian Church.
On Feb. 14, 1994 he married the former Jenny Dillon. She survives.
Mr. Johnson was a workaholic, and there were never enough hours in the day or days in the week to get in everything he wanted to do. For about a decade Daniel worked as a mover for United Van Lines, packing up and transporting people’s furniture and belongings all over the country. Depending on where his load was heading and how long it would keep on the road, he sometimes found himself with a few extra passengers during the summer – his two little girls. Riding shotgun in a big rig with their dad was a special treat. Watching the countryside roll by and hitting the truck stops was quite the adventure, but time was money and there were deadlines to make, so not being able to pull into every 76 truck stop was sometimes a point of contention between driver and passenger(s).
When it was time to give up the open road, Mr. Johnson entered another trade, dry wall hanging and finishing. He worked for White Drywall Company for over 25 years. During that time, “Dr. Drywall” developed a reputation for doing things the right way and paying attention to detail.
Just like his time on the road, this too would become a family adventure of sorts, only this time with his nephew, Don Massey. Mr. Johnson always thought of him as "the son he never had." He took his nephew under his wing, showed him the tricks of the trade, and was about as proud as anyone could be at the craftsman his nephew became.
Family was truly important. He loved every moment he got to spend with his kids and with his grandchildren. He especially loved when family time coincided with going out to eat. During the past several months, going to a restaurant with his family was something he missed very much.
Other than his loving wife, survivors include his daughters, Michelle Diane (Robbie Kinkead) Smith of Sheridan and Tonya Danielle (Steven Billingsley) Sutton of Sheridan; grandsons, Christopher Mourey, Holden Henderson, Desperado “Desi” Johnson and Wesley Sutton; brother, Dewey (Elizabeth) Johnson of Franklin; sister, Ellen Massey of Sheridan; many nieces and nephews; and his canine BFF, Tia.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Douglas Johnson; and by his sister, Helen Childress.
Family and friends may pay their respects on Friday, Dec. 11 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St. in Sheridan. Private family services will follow. Pastor Andrew Ramey will be officiating.
Strict COVID precautions will be observed, including the wearing of masks.
Memorial contributions may be presented to the Boone County Cancer Society, or to the Mechanicsburg Christian Church.
