Jeanne Edelle Roeder, 80, Sheridan, passed away on Friday evening, Sept. 3, 2021, at Harbour Manor in Noblesville.
Born July 26, 1941 in Lebanon, Ind., she was the daughter of the late Archie and Elizabeth (Harshbarger) Thompson.
She was a 1959 graduate of Whitestown High School.
On March 8, 1958 she married William “Bill” Roeder, Sr. Mr. Roeder passed away on May 15, 2018.
Mrs. Roeder started her career at Sheridan Health Care Center in 1974. She began working as a nurse’s aide and would later serve the residents as the Social Service Director and Activities Director. After completing coursework in Healthcare Administration, she was promoted to Administrator. In 1992, she left Sheridan Health Care for positions with facilities in both Anderson and Indianapolis. She later left the industry and hired on with Time Warner Cable to work in their customer service department before retiring in 2003 at age 63.
Retirement afforded the time to devote to the things she loved most in this world – her family and their small farm. She and Mr. Roeder loved tending to their family farm. Together they spent years creating their own little slice of heaven, tending to their animals and putting out huge gardens every year. As the season progressed, it soon became time for canning, one of Mrs. Roeder’s favorite activities. Every year she would look forward to putting up her garden’s bounty. She also loved making her famous homemade noodles. One part of her farm paradise that she enjoyed the most was taking care of all the stray cats that somehow seemed to find their way to her.
Her favorite color was yellow, and she thought there was nothing more beautiful than a field full of sunflowers. She also collected ceramic chickens and was a faithful Colts fan, even during the lean years. Mrs. Roeder loved to sing, and music seemed to soothe her soul. She listened to everything from the Carpenters to Michael Bolton, but the oldies were always her favorite.
Survivors include her son, Ronald William “Bill” (Jackie) Roeder, Jr. of Noblesville; daughters, Lynn (Larry) Revis of Fishers, Sharil Anne Roeder of Noblesville and Debbi Edelle James of Gainesville, Fla.; grandchildren, Miranda (David) Rodriguez, Megan (Chris) Weir, Kyle McKinley, Haley Roeder and Brandon Roeder; great-granddaughter, Ender Edelle Probst; and sister, Judith Evelle Torres of California.
Other than her loving husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and her two Australian Shepherds, both named Bebe.
A celebration of Life service is scheduled for 4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 12, at Kercheval Funeral Home, 306 E. 10th St. in Sheridan. Family and friends may pay their respects from 1 p.m. until the time of service. Mrs. Roeder’s aunt Linda Simpson will be officiating. Mrs. Roeder will be laid to rest at Spencer Cemetery at a later date.
