Jerry Jenkins, a 71-year-old lifelong resident of Sheridan, was called home on Friday, Dec. 27, 2019. He was surrounded by his family.
Mr. Jenkins was born on June 3, 1948 to the late Elmer and Kathryn (Lerch) Jenkins in Frankfort.
He was a graduate of Sheridan High School, class of 1966. He chose to earn his living working the land as a farmer. He worked for several family farms, most recently and for the past several years for Wilhoite Farms.
He met the love of his life Linda (Riggs) Jenkins and they were married on Sept. 9, 1972 at The Bible Church in Sheridan. The two of them have been at each other’s side for 47 years.
Mr. Jenkins was proud to have been involved in Boone County and Hamilton County 4H, not only as a 10-year member, but also a 4H leader for many years while his four children were members. He also served on the Boone County Pork Producers Board. He loved working with and showing pigs and passed this love on to his children and grandchildren, teaching them how to raise and show pigs. He especially looked forward to showing pigs with his grandchildren every year. Mr. Jenkins has been involved in 4H for more than 40 years.
He enjoyed taking care of his livestock, gardening, grilling and using his smoker, but everyone that knew him knew he looked forward to making people laugh whether it was through a prank or a joke. He enjoyed seeing people happy. His children said he enjoyed a good meal and when Mrs. Jenkins prepared something good, he would call his children and leave voicemails telling them what they just missed out on and how good the meal was.
His greatest joy was his family's faith and their walk with Jesus. Together, Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins passed these important values on to their children and grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Jenkins celebrated their faith and were members at Zion Apostolic Tabernacle in Frankfort.
Survivors include his wife Linda of 47 years; their four children; Annette (Joseph) Donovan of Frankfort, Brent (Jennifer) Jenkins of Pendleton, Stacy Jenkins of Wenzhou, China and Katricia (David) Sanchez of Lafayette; four grandchildren, Brayton, Brianna, Gentry and Natalia; a sister, Rebecca (Bishop Harrell) Wilson of Sheridan; and several extended family members and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
A celebration of life service is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 30, 2019 at 3 p.m. at The Bible Church, 1478 State Road 38, in Sheridan. Family and friends are invited to gather from 1:30 p.m. until the time of services.
