Larry Karl Hume, 77, a lifelong resident of Sheridan, passed away on March 10, 2020 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born April 2, 1942 to the late Ivan Coble Hume and Gladys A. (Robey) Hume in Lebanon, Ind.

He was a graduate of Sheridan High School’s Class of 1960.

After graduation, Mr. Hume traveled to California for a short stay. Upon his return to Indiana he joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1961 to 1964. He then returned home to Sheridan where he met and married Lynn Purdy. They were married on March 20, 1966 and were at each other’s side for 53 years until she passed away on Sept. 28, 2019.

Mr. Hume retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service in 2003.

He loved visiting and playing with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He looked forward to each visit and was a proud Pappaw. Mr. Hume enjoyed woodworking with remarkable ingenuity. He enjoyed coaching his son’s baseball teams throughout his youth, along with coaching his daughter’s softball teams. His main pleasure was watching his children and grandchildren’s sporting events. He loved and cared for his family with great pride. He touched many lives with his kindness and sense of fun. He brought immeasurable joy with his creativity and orneriness. In his latter years, his favorite pastime was sitting on his deck, drinking coffee, watching the birds and visiting with family and friends.

Survivors include his three children: Perry (Cheri) Hume, Lana Hume, and Tina (Brett) Tillison; grandchildren Brent (Lee) Hume, Kya Marsh, Tyler Hume, Shey Tillison and Jed Tillison; and great-grandchildren Harrison, Lincoln and Peyton Hume.

He was preceded in death by his loving sister, Ivalou Mary Hume Gray.

A Celebration of Larry’s life is scheduled for Saturday March 21 at 6:30 p.m. at Fisher Family Funeral Services, where family and friends are invited to gather from 5 p.m. until time of services.
